Essay

An American Pleasure: Exploring Guns Every since I was born, I have been around guns. I knew that they were dangerous and have always respected them. When I was very young and I did not understand guns they were kept out of my reach and always locked up for my protection and theirs. When I was old enough to understand them and respect them, I was taught how to shoot and I still like to shoot in my free time. In fact, my dad bought me my own shot gun but there were some stipulations with the gun; when I do not have it outside it has to be locked up and unloaded. I also cannot go outside just to shoot without my dad with me; finally, I had to read a gun safety pamphlet that came with the gun to reinforce what I have been taught. My family and I like to shoot recreational. We live out in the country with no one behind or on the right side of us so, those are the directions that we shoot; we never shoot directly the road or where our neighbors are. We practice gun safety while outside for example, when the person that is shooting is finished they put the safety on the gun, make sure the gun is unloaded, and carry it with them to look at the target while aiming away from everybody. While doing some research on EBSCOhost, I found an article; Load and Lock, about gun manufactures put more money into making guns safer. I think this is a good idea because gun manufactures know more about how guns work and what needs to be changed better than anyone. They also state that if a gun manufacture does this then they are likely to get more business because not many manufactures do this. Designing a safer gun would stand out and if proven it is safer they would most likely get more business form responsible parents and people concerned with safety. Finally, I believe that it could deliver a solution to the recent debates that are going on in our country. I would like to research this topic further because guns are a big part of my life. It is also a huge topic in our nation right now with the recent events that have happened all around the country. My possible argument is that it is unconstitutional for anyone, even the president, to take away the peoples guns. Most gun owners are responsible and safe with guns, the hand full of mentally ill, and emotionally disturbed people should not ruin it for everyone. So I ask you, is it unconstitutional for the American peoples guns be taken from them, if not then how can we make them safer?
